The War at Waterloo
A large portion of the British army that fights at Waterloo doesn't actually get home until 1818. The end of the war in Britain is marked by effectively an economic downturn. So we see a huge amount of unemployment, of poverty and complete neglect on this for those that were no longer in uniform. They all wear their Waterloo medals. But I think if you asked a lot of retired veterans, they would rather have more pensions than this small disk of silver.
