The Impacts of the Orbanization Project in Monterey, Mexico

In northern mexico, the city of monterey has grown from about 300 thousand in 19 50 to about three million in 19 90. And so they proposed that a large inter basin were a kind of cross tributary scheme that would move water about a hundred kilometers um and take water that had travelled down the tributary to irrigation and divert it, basically to the city. There was really strong resistance from the downstream irrigators who said, ya, this is basically taking away our life and livelihood. It led to corruption charges and all kinds of other concerns. But 25 years later, when we interviewed affected groups 25 years on from this project, it was no longer lagera.
