Golnar: The Shah above all else was trying to undermine what he saw as the key threats to his rule, the Tudh and the national front. And a key part of this was the white revolution of form which aimed to build a corporatist regime that would use massive oil revenues to modernize society. Grom: How did these efforts to manufacture consent relate to that entire project of repressive institution building that we've been discussing? She says there were also more conventional politicians like Hassan al-Asan Jaini who very clearly understood or saw the condition of the peasant as an outrage. They saw it as actually really a condemnation of the status quo.
