The Politics of Party

There were not modern mass political parties as we would come to understand them at the time and certainly no communist parties. It was a moment when when communist and radical politics tended to take place in small clandestine societies, rather than these open public democratic mass organizations. The word came to mean something much more like political parties, as we would now understand them.
