The Cruisers in the Harbor Drop Gunfire on This Crowd of People
In the early nineteenth century, they're manoeuvring, and its diplomacy with the threat of force behind it. By the 18 nineties, that calculus has shifted dramatically to the point where you can sit a cruiser and sip a hot beverage while dropping explosives into zanzibar town. This is a real signal, i think, of the shift in the balance of power, military and political power, between the west and the non west. I don't know what hallad was thinking. How he thought he was going to get away with this. But certainly, after this event, nobody bothers trying again.
