Metal on ceramic bearing surfaces has the best wear properties of all bearing surfaces. Contraindications include pregnant women, renal disease and metal hypersensitivity due to metal ions. Ceramic contains inert particles and therefore there is no concern for cancer risk. titanium on polyethylene bearing surfaces are not recommended due to high wear rates.
