Michigan Is Poised to Repeal Its Right to Work Law
Right to work laws let non union members and unionized workplaces not have to pay union dues while the unions are legally obligated to cover all of the members, whether they're paying or not. So basically, this is created a free rider situation where unions don't have the resources and the organization power among the workers to kind of be as strong as they used to be. This now is the first time that one of those states is repealing its law since Indiana repealed its law in 1965. It's a pretty big deal, even if kind of by the numbers, only 15% of salaried workers in salaried and wage earners in Michigan are unionized.
