There is a thirst for novelty in 19 63, which wasn't the case in the late 19 fifties. The beetle's capture comes at the very end of the macmillan government. A sense that a tweedy briton is on the way out. Northerness is already cool in 19 63. So the beetle kind of makes sense against that background.
