Introduction
Bishop Nicholas Sridley and Bishop Hugh Latimer were arrested by Queen Mary in 1555 England. The queen was trying to bring England back to the Roman Catholic Church. Ridley said he could not honor the pope in Rome since the papacy was seeking its own glory, not the glory of God. As a bundle of sticks caught fire beneath them, Latimer had his turn. He cried: "This day light such a candle"
