How Did You Come to Study Chinese Politics and Law and Economics?

The author grew up in China and came to the United States when she was 18. She says a friend's story of her father being executed made her think about private entrepreneurs, who are often at a disadvantage despite contributing so much to the economy. "I want to find out whether modernization theory could explain political participation among the entrepreneurs," she says.
