The Grateful Dead's New Approach to Recording

The Grateful Dead went into the studio with a new attitude. They were going to cut an album like they had with their first record. Get it done in three weeks, keep it simple and make it about the songs. Working Man's Dead is considered by many fans to be their first truly great studio album. Trial Famadoreans will also notice that the records we looked at in episodes 172 and 192 were hugely influential on the group's sound at this point. In particular, the Dead's new found attention to their harmony vocals on this album and the next one was a conscious attempt to copy Crosby, Stills and Nash.
