Is the Midwife a Midwife?
ideally midwives were older women who'd already borne children themselves, that their bodies had had those sensations and experiences which would help them understand what the birthing woman was going through. I also think there's a sort of respectability is she there. They're older, they're married, they've had children. Ideally, they trained as an apprentice with another midwife. And some midwives, i'm thinking of two, one in england that we know about and in new united states, who had really good relationships with local medical men.
