You either have to be willing to accept what you get or be hands on in the Linux world. I'm not convinced that solves it because you could try one version to have a terrible experience six months later, have a great experience on the very same distro. Nix OS is the one that seems to be kind of hitting my sweet spot right now. There's another set of compromises there. And that is complexity in installing software and just a new paradigm that kind of has to wrap your head around.
