Is There a God?
Early Christians were accused of being atheists, despite their belief in one god. As Christianity begins to spread within the Roman world this idea acquires more of a charge. The word atheist largely fades out of use once Christianity becomes dominant. It's really, it's only in the Renaissance that that starts to come into Western Latin usage.
