The Importance of Planning for Climate Change
The military and national security establishment more generally needs to be aware of and think about climate change in a national security context. It will unquestionably have impacts and those impacts are going to be very very difficult to predict. I do think though that as we discussed earlier urgency is a huge part of this conversation. Using climate change as a national security issue is actually outcome neutral one way to understand it is to think about it as time is running short let's mobilize to reduce emissions in order to avert a national security crisis but it can also support other politics including the opposite politics.
