Roosevelt never wrote memoirs, kept a diary or told his deepest feelings to anyone. He was also an extraordinarily charming person but it was very hard to know what was going on behind the smile. Roosevelt would arrange meetings with people and then cancel them at the last minute. Also bear in mind that he was the first disabled president from the age of 39.
