The Paradox of Science
In the 19th century science was seen as an alien thing that belonged to international organizations of elite scientists who never quite understands what they're doing and might possibly have suspicious motives. The paradox I'm talking about is at the same time you want to celebrate and marvel at the sheer extraneous of human ingenuity that is present in science. And on the other hand the amazing obstinacy or endurance of the most irrational kind of feverishly prejudiced biases and suspicions about that ingenuity. It's up against so much that's actually wired into our shared cultures from one end of the world to the other that wants to resist it.
