Kennedy Aitley heard what sounded like a number station broadcast. Number stations are shortwave radio broadcasts, usually consisting of a recording of someone reading out a series of numbers. It's generally believed that these are coded instructions being broadcast to spies in the field. Kennedy wanted to head back to Suffolk and track down members of Amelia Fennern's group. He was also intrigued by the man Henry Aitley kept referring to we'd heard, Walter Brown. But he says it doesn't explain whatever was trying to get into the Enriacles house outside.
