Caxton's Early Printing in English
All of the early printed books that we know are all printed in Latin. Caxton was quite shrewd and probably also lucky in lots of ways, because I'm sure luck always plays a role with these things too. So for Caxton, it really wasn't an obvious choice to be printing in English. The idea of printing in the vernacular takes quite some time to take hold. It isn't something that is sort of print and everybody lost printed books and we're done.
