The Origins of the Egyptian Gods
I would say well over a thousand, but it is difficult because sometimes a god can have several names and sometimes gods come together to form a sort of compound god. The ones I think that most people are familiar with are the family of Isis and Osiris. Quite often they have animal form in them. But you don't have to imagine that this is how people themselves imagine the goddess to be. They're worshipping maybe a cow-like essence in the form of a woman. It's far more complicated than we realise.
