William henry r irland was the son of samuel arland, a successful alsort of writer and engraver. He wanted to get his father's affection so began collecting shakespeare ephemera. Eventually he came in with an entire play written by William Shakespeare. His father accepted it as genuine but later questioned him about other works. But william henry knew what he was doing when he pulled off the hoax.
