Wrestling an Octopus
In 1957, the Toledo Blade published an article about a world championship octopus wrestling match that drew a crowd of 200 into Coma, Washington. The participants are skin divers and the rules are simple. Competitors are divided into three-man teams with one man from each team entering in each heat. When the wrestler's turn comes, he dives into the Pugent Sound, unarmed, and tries to find an octopus which will drag him underwater. He describes it as "more fun than hunting some poor homeless creature"
