Fidel Castro really formed this incredibly fatalistic mindset around the crisis. He believed, you know, which I don't think Khrushchev had ever fully appreciated until halfway through the crisis. And he kind of framed this in his own mind as this potential for a sort of glorious martyrdom that effectively Cuba would be destroyed.
