The Importance of the Critical Mode in History

For Nietzsche, all three modes have their value and their place. He thinks he would attribute a lot of importance to the monumental mode in any discipline. The problem is that the critical mode can get out of hand because of a super abundance or a bloatedness of history. We are now even more ahistorical, not unhistorical, but ahistorical than we were then. World War has destroyed what was left of the old regime of culture. And allowed for the creation of essentially what in my book I call the spectral society.
