Sidney Poitier
Sidney poitier worked as a janitor without pay in exchange for acting school. His big break came in 19 forty six, when he was cast it an all black broadway production of the ancient greek play, lissa strata. He made his big screen debut in no way out, where he played the role of doctor luther brooks,. The movies set the one for much of the actor's career. Rather than accepting demeaning roles that catere to racial stereotypes, he would primarily play saintly characters who would prove the stupidity of racism by responding to its slights with poise and civility.
