The Confederacy, the Cumberland, and the Monitor.
The Union had set up a blockade of three wooden ships, the Congress, the Federal, and the Minnesota. Confederate sailors yelled that the monitor looked like a cheese box on a raft. The battle ended in a stalemate as both ships withdrew damaged but able to sail.
