All o a handmaids tale has a historical antecedent or a modern point of comparison. i based everything in it, like the practices and the propaganda, the dogma, if you like, on things that already did exist and were existing at the time i wrote the book. You know, humanity does not get a free pass on its behaviour over the past ten thousand years. I e got a divorce because of course, this is a very biblically based regime, and there is no more divorce. If youe had a divorce or committed adultery, you're up for being a concubine, which is what these people are. But it's not just every woman.
