The Importance of Early States in the History of Women's Occupation

You mention in your book about the importance of the early states that when families, etc., then grew into states. That's where you think a lot of the patriarchal customs came in. You know, women were involved in domestication and animal rearing and more husbandry and even plowing. And very often I read in texts that because plowing is work that requires upper body strength, that women would have been precluded from doing that. But actually that's not borne out by the evidence that we see across the world.
