It's possible for a person to give a kidney to someone they love and save their life. But sometimes they can't take your kidney, even though you're healthy enough to give one. The work of alvin roth and his colleagues resulted in a system which has been able to scale up the number of swaps. Now each year thousands are done. Thousands of lives are saved. These organ exchanges are not yet legal everywhere in the world. In germany, for example, you can still only give an organ directly to some one in your immediate family.
