The SEC's Judgment on Cryptocurrencies
SEC Chair Gary Gensler has long held the view that Bitcoin is not a security and that virtually all the others probably are. At one point, there was a wide acceptance that Ethereum was not a security but its transfer from proof of work to proof of stake has caused some in the agency to revisit that question as to whether G is at a security after all. So some of this is judgment and viewpoint clearly.
