A lot of the testimonies of the second world come from Allied troops who come up against this thing. If you're coming up against a thing that can fire at kind of 1400 rounds a minute or 15 bullets a second, that's not a huge amount of fun. And so does the MG 42. You need to look at these things from its operational point as well as its tactical. That's the bit that's been left out of the narrative. For the last 50, 60 years, every book, every documentary you watch, but you read about the Second World War focuses almost entirely on the strategic and tactical level.
