Is There a Phenomenal Consciousness?
If you are right about a phenomenal consciousness being a step function event that impacts the whole nature of evolution itself. It also impacts the moral argument because of course we shouldn't expect to have different degrees of concern about all the different levels of phenomenal consciousness in the animal kingdom. If there's a real absolute difference between those who have it, let's say it's going to be chimpanzees and monkeys and pigeons and those who don't like lobsters and earthworms and so on. Then we can make a basic distinction in how we treat them.
