The Industrial Revolution as a Fabric Revolution
The industrial revolution really did begin with textiles and one of the reasons for that is that textiles produced to the capital that could then be invested in the railroads. It wasn't just advances in technology, it was advances in technology in combination with global power. The British were able to tap into this huge market by both being able to produce on a scale that was unprecedented through the use of these machines but also to kind of strong arm both the buying and selling side as well.
