The Role of Mining in the Cornish Story
From the Bronze Age onwards, Cornwall was linked into European trade networks through its metal. People would hack into visible seams in cliff faces or they would work along valleys to get the heavy oars out of it. As soon as steam technology arrived, that just allowed Cornish mining to go berserk and create incredibly deep mines.
