The Story of the First SAS Brigade
Early officers and men of the wartime SAS came from Layforce, which was a commando unit. They were sent out to the Middle East but then achieved very little. So they left all these people with basically nowhere to go,. nothing to do, except to be sent back to their units. Dudley Clark created a fake parachute unit known as the first SAS brigade in World War II. He used two ordinary soldiers who had been captured by an Italian officer for his deception. The idea was that this story would then kind of get out because people spoke to each other and it would get out to enemy agents.
