The Interaction of Poverty and Health in West Virginia
West Virginia was once a large mining community and there's still active mines. Almost every family we see has someone who either was a coal miner and got laid off or family members were in the coal industry. So much of what we're seeing is a result of the culture in the economy coupled with lack of access, Lack of jobs, very poor health care before Affordable Care Act.
