The Role of Private Companies in Defensive Operations
Eric Liu: The computer fraud abuse act has been interpreted pretty strictly in a lot of quarters to potentially limit even what I would call defensive operations by private companies. Do you see more of a role of private companies in actually conducting defensive or maybe slightly offensive operations with the right legal authority or how is that moving? We don't think and here's why. He says among the areas where government has really made progress over the past several years is our ability to glean information from adversary activity targeting U.S. networks. That information can then be passed back to cyber command so they can take action overseas, he adds.
