Mao's Decision to Whack Gao Gang
The thing that triggered Mao's decision to whack Gao Gang came about after Deng Xiaoping and Chen Yun went to Mao. They informed Mao everything Gao was trying to do behind the scenes, they say. The upshot of all this was that Mao yanked Leo Shaoche back in a line, got the word out to everyone not to talk to the Soviets or get too cozy with them.
