When I started women journalists, apart from being a rather despised breed, tended to have to specialise and sort of knit your own royals and fashion and gossip. So I thought I could do some proper reporting. Once you get the sort of smell of a place and a situation in your nostrils, it's so heady. But it is a very hard-bitten world. And I suppose that story reflects how hard bittening it was. Did you have to, in a sense, change to make a success of it? Well, you know, either decided, right, go with a flow and fight it, or ... weep and give it up.
