piccadilly was a genteel. it had an enormous supply of wealthy people, but also,. increasingly, people of the middling sort who were drawn to the areas. Many coffee houses, gentlemen's clubs. There was a huge popular thirst for both entertainment and knowledge. These were forerunners of mus seums. Sir hans sloane created the nucleus of the british museum with a collection of very important artifacts. But you had amateurs mustling in and creating their own museums.
