In those days, london had three big mother ships. There were the prepe wall street american bank lazard and a lazare in paris. And then there was london, which was principally a sort of oxbridge educated public schoolboys. It was extraordinary change in culture that when i joined the city, you didn't talk about money. Indeed, it was a sackable offence at lazard's to tell anyone what you were paid. That's very symbolic of the eighties. I think in damn your body as a temple, and that kind of atmosphere prevailed.
