Major General Smelly Butler died in the Naval Hospital. Old Gimlet Eye succumbed to a gallbladder and liver ailment. The Soviets eventually dropped him from the payroll in 1940 when he failed to win a seat on the new Un-American Activities Committee. Dick Stein then served as a New York judge until he died in 1954.
