This day in history class is a production of eyehart radio. In 18 81, the tuskegee state normal school opened its doors to students for the first time. It was intended to serve as a training ground for future alabama teachers. The patriotic date of the school's official opening was chosen to celebrate the independence of the nation and the recent emancipation of the african American people.
