At the very beginning of the dynastic age, people are being buried in a pit grave. They might have some property with them, not a great deal. But increasingly they start to want to be buried with more and more property. And yet they don't want to abandon the idea of being buried with an awful lot of grave goods because they think that they might be trapped in the tomb for eternity.
