There is something really new about what survives rim the renaissance, which is multi volume collections of people's reading notes. And we really don't have that kind of bulk a notes from earlier periods, from antiquity. We would know, i think, if we, because we have autograph manuscripts by him, drafts of works that he composed later in his career. But given the stature he reached in his own lifetime, anything he wrote in his own hand was treated with special care. So I sometimes worry i overdrew what specific about the renaissance. The next chapter takes this kind of implicit, really fascinating comparative.
