The Cultural Revolution in China
The culture revolution was the single most isolated time that china has ever had in the modern it had diplomatic relations with almost no countries at all. It still hadn't opened up to the americans, at least not until the later years of the cutch revolution, when nixon visited in 19 72. There were very few foreigners in china during the culture revolution, so very few outsiders had much of a vision of what was going on. They really could not work out what on earth was going on in china, but they were very worried that it might spill over into something genuinely dangerous for the rest of the world.
