The government has placed a big emphasis on this problem. They recognise that when children miss school, they get worse GCSEs and by all measures do worse in life. But the numbers are so high post-pandemic that it's going to take a while I think to bring those numbers down. Flick Drummond is an MP for Offstead who used to be a lay inspector of schools. He says: 'This is a huge problem and has huge ramifications for society if we can't get these hundreds of thousands of children back into the classroom'
