Joe Yun-Nung and Lady Chun
When Joe and Lai was just four months old, he was given to the family of Joe Yun-Nung's youngest brother. His older brother had died without a son so his wife gave him up for adoption. He grew up in a family of scholar officials serving the Qing government. After 1910, Joe was sent to north Shenyang as part of China's first secret service.
