I think there was a timeliness to it. I'm talking about the undeniable sense that we're in a rockier place with a lot of our political values,. The world is not the happiest it has ever been. There were moments when decisions seem to be made, watersheds seemed to be breached. So I wanted to draw those together. It occupies a sphere of human significance sort of above the sort of per chances and contingencies of mere historical progression. You can't explain something that's simply been the product of what Harold Monroe would call events, dear boy events.
