The Australian Budget Surplus Could Help Fight Inflation
Andrew Bailey: It could be that central banks have to continue to hike until they start to see labor markets starting to loosen up. The rise in the Australian budget surplus, what does that mean? Because in theory, if that money is now sitting with the government rather than being spent out there in the economy, then that is in effect a withdrawal from the money supply. That could have... I mean, that's like a fiscal tightening effect, isn't it? It would be good.
